Streak-Free Glass & Windows

Learn professional window cleaning techniques for crystal-clear, streak-free results every time. The secret is in the method and tools, not expensive cleaners.

What You'll Need

  • Microfiber cloths (2-3)
  • Squeegee
  • Bucket
  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar (optional)
  • Newspaper (optional)

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Perfect Cleaning Solution

Mix 1-2 drops of dish soap per gallon of water. That's it! Too much soap causes streaks. For extra shine, add 1/4 cup white vinegar. Avoid commercial glass cleaners with dyes and fragrances.

2

Remove Loose Dirt

Wipe windows with a dry microfiber cloth or brush to remove dust and cobwebs. This prevents turning dirt into muddy streaks. Pay attention to corners and edges where dust accumulates.

3

Apply Solution Properly

Dip cloth in solution and wring out well - it should be damp, not dripping. Wipe entire window in a consistent pattern. Or spray solution lightly on window. Too much liquid causes streaks.

4

Squeegee Technique

Start at the top corner. Pull squeegee across in a reverse-S pattern. Wipe squeegee blade with clean cloth after each stroke. Overlap strokes slightly. This professional method prevents streaks.

5

Detail the Edges

Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe window edges and corners where the squeegee couldn't reach. Buff any remaining moisture. This final step ensures completely streak-free glass.

6

Polish to Perfection

Buff with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or crumpled newspaper. Use circular motions. This removes any remaining film and creates a brilliant shine.

Pro Tips

  • Clean windows on cloudy days - direct sun causes cleaner to dry too fast
  • Newspaper works great for final buffing (no lint)
  • Clean inside and outside of windows for best results
  • Horizontal strokes outside, vertical inside - easy to see which side has streaks
  • Replace squeegee blade when it gets nicked or worn

Important

  • Don't use paper towels - they leave lint
  • Avoid cleaning windows in direct sunlight
  • Don't use abrasive scrubbers on glass
  • Be careful on ladders when cleaning exterior windows
